Project leaders can have a major impact on business when assuming that they have their role to play in connecting people, knowledge, know-how and beat the silo-like mind set. And because they interact with all company entities, they are the most suited professional for this task. Moreover, adding to that new dimension of the PM role a strategic one that allows every actions to be in accordance with company business goals, we reach a level of impact which is at best.

Very interesting article about the innovation project manager. Very few resources regarding this particular task of the project manager. Here are listed 4 roles (Sense Maker, Game Master, Web Weaver, Flow master). I would like to add a fifth role, block remover, and a last one the NYPD role (Protect and Serve).
Block remover: The project manager helps the innovation project to live and progress identifying and removing all blocks that could affect its growth.
Protect and Serve: As said in this role, the PM protects the innovation project and serve it to master its chance to go live.
